“LandIT’s work provided much-needed clarity on alternative wastewater servicing for a major Northern Rivers precinct facing high infrastructure costs. Their comprehensive analysis of decentralised and modular treatment options, including regulatory and design pathways, gave stakeholders a clear understanding of cost drivers and feasibility. While the proposal did not proceed, LandIT’s insights laid a strong foundation for future planning and demonstrated their ability to coordinate across government and specialist providers to unlock complex development challenges.”

Situation

The high cost of traditional centralised sewer servicing in a major housing and employment precinct in Northern Rivers has created significant infrastructure challenges, leading to the need for alternative solutions to unlock the precinct and meet housing and job targets.

Task

LandIT assessed the feasibility of decentralised treatment and water recycling systems as scalable solutions while also reviewing compliance requirements and new designs in order to reduce the cost of infrastructure.

Actions

Coordinating with specialist providers and government agencies, LandIT explored innovative servicing models such as modular wastewater treatment systems with integrated recycled water capabilities as well as evaluating innovative design requirements such as irrigation zones, power supply needs and regulatory pathways.

Results

LandIT was able to provide a comprehensive analysis of decentralised servicing options, giving stakeholders valuable insights into cost drivers, design implications and regulatory considerations. This provides the foundations for a strong future for planning around the precinct where innovative models may be viable.
